About Ashfield Cycles
Ashfield Cycles is a Specialized bike dealer and stocks a wide range of bikes, apparel, shoes and accessories, as well as servicing all types of bikes.
The business was established in 1978 by current owner John Michell. During those years John and his team have encouraged thousands of people to get fit and healthy by riding a bike.
Bikes have become lighter and faster and the gears and brakes have improved and mountain bikes and triathlon bikes have been added to the line-up. Plus, road bikes have become more and more popular.
The popularity of road bikes has led to Ashfield Cycles’ involvement with bike clubs like Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club and Lidcombe-Auburn Cycle Club (LACC) which Ashfield Cycles has sponsored for many years. The business currently sponsors the LACC Women’s race team.
John Michell – Owner
Proprietor John Michell started the business when he was just 25 years old, originally located on Parramatta Road at Ashfield. He relocated to Liverpool Road in the mid-1980s and has occupied the same premises ever since.
John grew up in the local area and was interested in bicycles for as long as he can remember. He started racing at the age of 14 with the local Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club and is now an active member and sponsor of the Lidcombe-Auburn Cycle Club.
John is passionate about cycling and has never lost his enthusiasm for bikes or for the local area, and enjoys helping others join him in his favourite past-time.
He rides a S-Works Tarmac and S-Works Roubaix and has a collection of other bikes.
Nicola Rutzou – Manager
Nicola left behind a career in public relations to follow her passion and work in the cycling industry by joining the Ashfield Cycles team full-time in 2013.
She’s a keen road cyclist who took up the hobby about five years ago with her interest growing exponentially. Her love for cycling culminated in her launching her own blog about women’s cycling – Women Who Cycle two years ago.
Nicola is a member of the Lidcombe-Auburn Cycling Club and the team manager of the LACC Women’s Race Team.
She rides a Specialized Amira Expert and commutes to work on a Globe Work 3.
James Bernard – Workshop/Sales
James is the chief mechanic at Ashfield Cycles but also works on the shop floor assisting customers.
He’s deferred his University studies to join the team at Ashfield Cycles because he loves bikes and genuinely enjoys getting people back on the road.
He rides a Specialized Tarmac and commutes to work on a Globe Roll 8, and has his eye on an Epic, Crux and a Venge.
